ABOUT MIDELT
Want to discover Midelt? There are a thousand and one ways to do so. If Midelt does not have a vast historical heritage and possesses few museums, the city nevertheless deserves more than the simple role of staging post which is generally its lot in life.
Located at the foot of Mount Ayachi, between the Middle and High Atlas, Midelt is a small town at medium altitude. This city has a magnificent landscape that visitors admire. Midelt is a city in Morocco, at the junction of the chains of the Middle Atlas and the Eastern High Atlas and its population is 60,000.
Located at 1,521m above sea level in the Atlas, Midelt has a mountain climate with snow in winter.
At this altitude, mountain vegetation (fir, cedar) mainly replaces Mediterranean vegetation (oak, olive trees, etc.). Besides having a Kasbah, the place serves as a stopover city when visiting the surroundings of Ouarzazate.
You can easily reach the Cirque de Jaffar from here. From Midelt, it is also possible to climb Mount Ayachi, which takes two to three days.
Finally, the small town is close to the Aouli Gorge and its old lead mines which create an impressive backdrop to the town.
It is a place where one can book holidays to the nearby National Park of the High Eastern Atlas, it’s just 3 hours from the dunes of Erg Chebbi and 1 hour 30 minutes from the Middle Atlas. That’s not to forget other sites where orienteering races, guided tours to old mines, villages, Ksars and Kasbahs can be arranged.
