Sidi Kacem

ABOUT SIDI KACEM

Want to discover Sidi Kacem? There are a thousand and one ways to do so. Located at the place where the river Rdom leaves the heights of the Meknes plateau to enter the large, fertile Gharb plain, this city makes you want to take a dip in the summer without forgetting the splendid landscape it has to offer.

This city owes its name to Kacem, the son of Moulay Idriss who was the founder of Fez in the 8th century.

The origin of this individual, as well as the saintly life he led in this place near the sea, have given this landmark considerable importance, as his tomb is located here in north-west Morocco.

For three centuries, a great moussem has been celebrated here on the day of Onçora, the 24th of June of the Julian year.

Sidi Kacem is a medium-sized town in northwest Morocco.

On the routes Meknes (45km) - Tangiers (210km) and Fez (85km) - Rabat (120km) with a population of 80,000, it has real opportunities for sustainable growth and development.

Its economy is essentially based on agricultural activities (the effective agricultural area covers 75%, with some of the best fertile land in the kingdom and immense water resources).

Because of its potential, it is a province of choice for investment. The city is a collection centre for cereals produced in the hills to the east and north and the surrounding land produces citrus fruit, olive oil, cotton, beetroot and rice. The city has two important souks where you can do your shopping.

Afterwards you can see the tomb of a Muslim sage who merited the title of Sidi ("saint") and who has been attracting pilgrims to his koubba for four centuries.

His tomb became the religious centre of the Guich tribe of Chérardas who arrived at a much later period in the region.
